In Dynamic Views, the export to Excel is transforming special characters

The export to Excel is taking special characters, like tildes, accent marks, and the other things that American users don't typical have in their names, and changing them.  In fact, the export isn't actually Excel.  If you Save As once the export opens, the file type is .txt.  Besides doing a REPLACE for each character for each field, is there a way for the export to Excel to actually export to an Excel file type?
